Saoirse Ronan will star in Stephenie Meyer's possible next-Twilight-that-isn't-Twilight

While others scramble to find the next Twilight-esque teen phenomenon, some have gone right back to the source—namely author Stephenie Meyer, whose novel The Host lacks vampires, but similarly concerns a young woman who helps a supernatural parasite learn to love. According to Deadline, the adaptation of The Host scripted by Andrew Niccol (Gattaca) now has Saoirse Ronan, most recently seen as the coldblooded killer kid of Hanna, who will star in the dual role of a girl whose body is overtaken by an alien “soul,” leading to an internal struggle between her two consciousnesses, as the alien falls under the sway of the girl’s feelings and becomes sidetracked from its mission to eradicate the last remaining people on Earth. And of course, there are also plenty of chaste kissing scenes and a cliffhanger that hints at a sequel, suggesting Ronan may have nabbed her first genuine franchise. Expect to hear plenty more about this in the coming months as it slowly ascends to its rightful place on every other Entertainment Weekly cover.
