The first trailer for HBO’s upcoming Sarah Jessica Parker vehicle, Divorce, does a fine job of quashing the notion that this is going to be Sex And The City redux. Instead of a half hour of sex puns and stilettos, it seems like we’re looking at a dramedy along the lines of a Casual or Togetherness. Parker plays Frances, a woman who wants an divorce from her husband (Thomas Haden Church), but not a completely clean break. “This could be the greatest thing that has happened to us,” Frances says. “Now we can go back to just liking each other again.” Is this actually just Conscious Uncoupling: The Series?
Catastrophe’s Sharon Horgan created the show, which gives us reason to be optimistic. She knows something about wringing laughs out of a tense marriage.
Divorce premieres this fall on HBO.
