Sarah Michelle Gellar to let Robin Williams slay her for a change (with all the jokes)
Since the end of Ringer, Sarah Michelle Gellar has been determined to show she can also be funny in a more self-aware way—like signing on to a (rejected) “housewife hijinks” sitcom at 20th Century Fox, or signing up for beginners in-home Pilates sessions when she’s an intermediate, a screw-up that she and Freddie Prinze Jr. still keel over laughing about. Now she’ll get a chance to prove those comedy chops in a new CBS single-camera comedy from Ally McBeal creator David E. Kelley and co-starring Robin Williams, two people familiar with the easy, natural humor of relentless wackiness.
Titled Crazy Ones, because of the craziness, the previously reported show stars Williams as the “brilliant” head of an ad agency who frequently clashes with its creative director—a rival who just happens to be his own daughter, played by Gellar, who’s presumably embarrassed by her dad’s constant impressions of John Wayne in pitch meetings, even though they get results, pilgrim. As always, the chances of seeing Gellar slay any demons (except for personal ones!) remain very low, but the chances of hearing Robin Williams promise to “Exor-cise the demons!” in a funny Southern preacher’s voice are probably pretty good.
