Sarah Palin: Would-be censor?

In the flood of interesting information about Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin that's emerged in the last few days, not a lot of it has touched directly on the sort of cultural stuff we cover at The A.V. Club. But here's a charming detail from Time:

[Former Wasilla Mayor John] Stein says that as mayor, Palin continued to inject religious beliefs into her policy at times. "She asked the library how she could go about banning books," he says, because some voters thought they had inappropriate language in them. "The librarian was aghast." That woman, Mary Ellen Baker, couldn't be reached for comment, but news reports from the time show that Palin had threatened to fire Baker for not giving "full support" to the mayor.

Here's a link to the American Library Association's lists of America's most frequently challenged books, just in case you want to put a copy of Of Mice And Men aside to be on the safe side.
