Sarah Silverman plays a mental patient inspired by modern dance in Psychic Friend’s “We Do Not Belong” music video

Sarah Silverman popped up during the Emmys last night with Nathan Fillion, joining in on Neil Patrick Harris’ mid-show dance number in attempt to liven up the award proceedings. But today she shows up in a completely different context to show off her dance moves. Psychic Friend’s new video for “We Do Not Belong”—which shares an underpinning bass line with The Decemberists’ “Yankee Bayonet”—casts Silverman as a woman kept captive in a basement by her parents for decades who ultimately ends up up institutionalized and unable to communicate. Still, one intrepid therapist, played by Imperial Teen’s Will Schwartz, makes it his personal mission to bring out some form of expression from a seemingly braindead woman. After noticing her attention distracted by modern dance on television, prolonged exposure to modern choreography leads to Silverman letting loose in the halls of her hospital. It’s the kind of odd and unsettling comedy Silverman does best.
