Saturday Night Live not getting rid of any cast members this year

Speaking of the upcoming season of Saturday Night Live, in addition to announcing that Alec Baldwin would host the fall premiere—and claim the top rank of the now laughably named Five-Timers Club—Lorne Michaels has also confirmed the second week’s host will be Melissa McCarthy, who will rejoin her Bridesmaids co-star Kristen Wiig and receive polite, much quieter applause for mentioning Mike And Molly in her monologue. But perhaps most interesting is that while Michaels still plans to hold his regular August auditions for possible new members, he’s also made the rare decision to stay his usual summertime execution, with all of the current cast returning. This means that both Wiig and fellow burgeoning movie star Jason Sudeikis will stick around for at least one more season before they ascend. More importantly, it also means that freshmen cast members like Paul Brittain and Jay Pharoah have another chance to create a breakout character that is not an impression of James Franco or Will Smith, as there is only so much comedy to mine from them, trust us.
