In what could be seen as desecrating a modern horror classic if Rob Zombie hadn’t done a pretty good job of that already, according to The Hollywood Reporter writers Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan have been hired to “recalibrate” the Halloween franchise. That’s “recalibrate,” not “remake,” “reboot,” or “reimagine,” the difference here presumably being that the instrumentation is more precise. Or not, considering Melton and Dunstan’s past work includes Piranha 3DD, a film which contained both Gary Busey and a so-called “cooch cam.”
The writing team of Melton and Dunstan was also responsible for penning Saws IV–VII (a.k.a. Saw 3D: The Final Chapter). They’re currently developing the long-simmering movie version of The Outer Limits for MGM, a position they took after Sinister writers Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill dropped out. So with Melton and Dunstan’s experience with remakes, sequels, and long-delayed films (Zombie’s Halloween II came out in 2009, and this project has been in the works ever since) combined, viewers can at least expect consistency in their disappointment with the next Halloween film.
