Say Hi: The Wishes And The Glitch

Say Hi: The Wishes And The Glitch

For his fifth album in six years, Eric Elbogen shortened his band moniker from Say Hi To Your Mom to Say Hi, but his musical ingredients hold firm: catchy indie-pop buoyed by synthesizers, Elbogen's mumbly croon, and clever lyrics. The croon marks a step forward: Elbogen isn't a great singer, but "Shakes Her Shoulders" sounds dynamic compared to the flat vocalizing that saddled some of Say Hi's previous work. Regardless, it isn't much of a liability, because Elbogen has a good ear for melody; Wishes has plenty of instantly gratifying pop hooks, the type its predecessor—2006's vampire-themed Impeccable Blahs—lacked. That abundance makes The Wishes And The Glitch Say Hi's strongest disc yet.
