Scandal season 6 has the election results (no, not those)
On the eve of the inauguration for the next President Of The United States, another political battle will begin. (Because that’s what we all want, right? More elections?) On January 19, 2017, Scandal returns for its sixth season, which hinges on a presidential election slightly less over-the-top and theatrical than the one we’re currently living in as Republican nominee Mellie Grant (Bellamy Young) and her vice-presidential candidate Jake Ballard (Scott Foley) go head-to-head with Democratic nominee Francisco Vargas (Ricardo Chavira) and his VP choice Cyrus Beene (Jeff Perry).
According to the new trailer, “the election results are in.” Then, the ominous narrator teases a huge twist in just the first 10 minutes of the new season, punctuated by a literal explosion in the trailer. Scandal is not one for subtlety. But the explosion looks like it only affects Quinn and Huck, so who cares? More pressingly, it looks like we’re going to get some fiery Olivia-Mellie scenes. Steamy Olivia-Fitz scenes, too, but again, who cares? The more Mellie, the merrier.
Raise a glass to the return of the proper TGIT lineup: How To Get Away With Murder and Grey’s Anatomy will also return to ABC on January 19, after taking their winter hiatuses following November 17 midseason finales.
