Scarlett Johansson is officially the biggest female star at the box office
Playing Black Widow has certainly paid off for Scarlett Johansson, as the actress now holds the 10th spot—and is the lone woman—on Box Office Mojo’s list of the highest grossing stars. The top ten is otherwise populated by the likes of Harrison Ford and Samuel L. Jackson, who are in the top two spots, Robert Downey Jr. in the fifth, and Michael Caine in the 9th. The next actress who comes close is Cameron Diaz, ranking 19th.
Johansson’s top three grossing movies are all Marvel endeavors—The Avengers, Age Of Ultron, and Captain America: Civil War. And The Jungle Book, in which she voiced an animated snake, came in fourth, followed by another two Marvel films. Luc Besson’s Lucy is seventh, and stands out as the first lone starring vehicle to appear. Her next chance to achieve a similar box office feat will be in the controversial Ghost In The Shell, which is due out next year.
Speaking of Marvel movies, maybe Johansson’s new title will convince the studio to finally make that Black Widow film. (It probably won’t.)
