Scarlett Johansson joins Taika Waititi's next film

Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi is gearing up to work with yet another Avenger, with Variety reporting that Scarlett Johansson has signed on to appear in his new film, Jojo Rabbit. Set in Germany during World War II, the film will see Johansson play a young mother hiding a young Jewish woman in her home during the Nazi occupation, including from her ten-year-old son, a devoted follower of the Third Reich.

In case it wasn’t clear from the plot description up above, this is still apparently being billed as a “Nazi comedy.” Waititi himself—who starred in his own What We Do In The Shadows, and gave a memorable turn as affable rock man Korg in Ragnarok—will apparently co-star as the boy’s beloved imaginary friend: Adolf Hitler.

Now that Johansson’s on board, Waititi—who had some pretty great luck with the youthful casting for his warm and weird 2016 feature Hunt For The Wilderpeople—is currently working to cast the kid.
