Scarlett Johansson might play ass-kicking superhero Zelda Fitzgerald
According to a report from The Tracking Board, Scarlett Johansson is “attached” to play another effortlessly badass superhero-type in the same vein as her roles in the Avengers movies and the upcoming Ghost In The Shell. However, her character this time around is less of an anime/comic book character and more of a literary icon, as the article says she’ll be playing writer Zelda Fitzgerald in a biopic called The Beautiful And The Damned. However, this is all pretty early—no director has even signed on yet—so there’s still a chance the project will end up moving forward without Johansson.
The Beautiful And The Damned is based on a script by Hanna Weg, and it’ll reportedly be a “romantic drama” based on the lives of Zelda and F. Scott Fitzgerald, whose marriage pretty much defined the term “romantic drama.” Also, it gets its title from an F. Scott Fitzgerald book that—like most of his other books—was inspired by his relationship with Zelda. The movie won’t be an adaptation of that book, though, as it’ll be based on the real couple and not that slightly fictionalized version, so this is all a little more confusing than it needs to be.
