Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark highlights creatures old and new in trio of teasers

The high beams continue to flash on Guillermo Del Toro’s Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark movie, which, after introducing us to Harold on Friday, is back with a basket of new footage for you.

A trilogy of clips shared throughout the evening offer creatures both established and new. For example, fans of Alvin Schwartz and Stephen Gammell’s twisted, delightfully traumatic trilogy will recognize the rasp of the toe-less corpse below (even if its wording is, curiously, a touch different).

But there’s also a new monster afoot. Hi, The Jangly Man, we hope you’re scarier than Slender Man.

It appears, however, that Del Toro and co. saved the best for last. Look close at this last teaser and you’ll see “pale face, black eyes, and long black hair” of “The Dream.” If that doesn’t ring a bell, revisit the illustration that depicts her as a fleshy block with a clueless, toothless smile. Ah, yes, now you remember.

The Autopsy Of Jane Doe’s André Øvredal helmed the adaptation. Its flexible logline, which tells of a “a group of teens who must solve the mystery surrounding a wave of spectacularly horrific deaths in their small town,” leaves ample room for more horrors, be they corpse diggers, wooden tails, or more spiders than one could possibly fit inside a human head.

Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark will clamber through your bedroom window on August 9.
