Scissor Sisters announce new album and release date; Ian McKellen featured in album’s closing track
The Bee Gees and Pink Floyd’s lovechild, Scissor Sisters are back this June 29 with Night Work, their follow-up to 2006’s Ta-Dah. The glam-pop band will release their first single, “Fire With Fire” on June 20, but you can sample the album’s closing track “Invisible Light” below. It’s a chic, pulsing 6-minute dancefloor beat that surprises with a dark spoken-word interlude around the 4-minute mark from none other than Gandalf himself. McKellen depicts a debauched “Babylon” with sailors who “lust and swagger” in the “laser gaze” of the moonlight, and then growls about “painted whores, sexual gladiators, fiercely old party children” who “all wake to debut the bacchanal.” Yes, we do feel like dancing.
