Scotland Yard Gospel Choir in major van accident; member remains in serious condition

Via our Chicago site: Chicago chamber-pop collective Scotland Yard Gospel Choir was involved in an accident on I-65 in Indiana last night en route to the MidPoint Music Festival in Cincinnati. All six members were hospitalized after their van blew out its rear passenger tire, although violinist Ethan Adelsman, keyboardist Alison Hinderliter, and drummer Jay Santana were released this morning, according to the Bloodshot Records website. Bassist Mark Yoshizumi was airlifted to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn for surgery, according to band publicist and A.V. Club Chicago contributor Marah Eakin, while guitarist Mary Ralph and lead singer Elias Einhorn were still under observation at Jasper County Hospital in Rensselaer, Ind.

Scotland Yard Gospel Choir’s latest album, …And The Horse You Rode In On, was released September 15. The group’s show tomorrow night at the Bell House in Brooklyn has been canceled, though any decisions made regarding its upcoming fall tour (scheduled to begin October 27 in Pittsburgh) will await fuller diagnoses of the band members’ medical conditions. Bloodshot has established a PayPal fund to help offset the cost of replacing the band’s touring van and musical gear, both totaled as the vehicle rolled “over five times,” according to Eakin.
