Scott Baio tries to explain his comments on Happy Days co-star Erin Moran’s death

After Happy Days star Erin Moran’s death on Saturday, Scott Baio made the possibly ill-advised decision to appear on WABC’s The Bernie & Sid Show on Monday morning, where he was asked about Moran’s history of substance abuse. In the interview, Baio elaborated about Moran’s long history of drug and alcohol problems, ultimately adding, “You do drugs or drink, you’re gonna die.”

As it turns out, the likely cause of Moran’s death, announced by the Harrison County coroner’s office on Monday afternoon, was stage-four cancer. Baio was almost immediately besieged on Twitter, where he tried to explain his radio comments and complained that people were only attacking him because he’s a Trump supporter (as his profile picture makes obvious).

EW reports that the now-frustrated Baio posted a longer response on his Facebook page last night:

It’s a very sad story all around, and Baio has the difficult position of processing his grief in a public forum (albeit, a position he created by being on a radio show). But, given his initial response, you could also argue that comments like “I’m very heartbroken over her passing, especially since it was cancer” aren’t helping his case.
