Save the cheerleader. Dark Horizons reports Scream 4 has offered some key starring roles to some fresh faces who will eventually give shape and dimension to body bags, and one of them is Heroes’ Hayden Panettiere. Also up for joining the post-traumatic trio of Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox-Arquette, and David Arquette are Ashley Greene of The Twilight Saga and a Culkin. Lake Bell, recently Alec Baldwin’s young wife in It’s Complicated, is in negotiations as well.
As expected, the script is a mystery and heavily protected by armed Pinkertons, a dragon, and a smoke monster, so all we can gather about the plot is based on brief character descriptions the actors received. From the sounds of it, Greene’s character is the new Sidney and actual star of the film rather than Campbell. Greene is up for the role of Jill, Sidney’s cousin back in Woodsboro, with Panettiere eyed for Jill’s best friend in a Randy-like friend role rather than a Tatum-like role. Therefore Panettiere is guaranteed to at least make it to the sequel, at which point all bets are off. Rory Culkin, best known for his role as Mel Gibson’s asthmatic son in Signs, would serve as a love interest for Jill, meaning he's probably the killer. Lake Bell would play a Woodsboro police officer whom Sidney knew back in high school. Therefore Bell would probably end up marrying Courtney Cox-Arquette. Filming commences in July in Michigan.
