Screenwriter Tony Gilroy will get a crack at directing the next Bourne film

After returning to script the next Jason Bourne film, Tony Gilroy now appears to be taking over directing duties on that upcoming sequel as well, with Deadline reporting that the Michael Clayton helmer is currently working out the terms of the deal. This decision would seem to indicate that previous director Paul Greengrass has been officially ousted from the tentatively titled The Bourne Legacy—and since star Matt Damon has said that he would not return unless Greengrass is involved, that puts his participation in question as well. However, as suggested by Gilroy’s recent crafting of what’s being referred to as the “Bourne Bible,” Universal plans to continue its one successful franchise for eons to come, with or without Matt Damon, perhaps even when corporeal actors have been replaced by beings of pure and infinite light, so Damon might want to collect one last gigantic paycheck while he still can.
