Sean Astin still hasn’t said die, vows he and Corey Feldman would do a Goonies sequel

In April, a TMZ reporter prodded The Goonies director Richard Donner with questions about a possible sequel, until Donner kind of admitted that he was working on one.  That was enough to send the Internet into a whirlwind of incessant chatter about who would be on board for another movie. (Obviously, Josh Brolin hasn’t been up to much.) And now fans will be happy to learn that Sean Astin has verbally signed himself and Corey Feldman up for the maybe-sequel. While doing press for the ATX TV Festival, Astin told E! News he would love to be in the sequel, even though, as Donner already said, it would likely center on the original characters’ children.

“I certainly like the idea of doing it,” Astin said. “I don’t know if I’d be in it or not. If they really wanted us to be in it, I’m sure there would be some way to work it out.” He then spoke up for his old buddy Corey Feldman as to whether he might be willing to take a break from elaborately depressing house parties. “We talk a lot. Corey and I are buddies. Oh, he’s fired up. He’s ready to go,” Astin said.

Astin then added, “It’ll happen, whether in my lifetime or not”—eerily echoing Feldman’s comment to The A.V. Club in 2012 about a possible sequel, “I say that there’s always hope until we’re all dead.” And of course, Goonies never say… well, you know.
