Sean Penn doesn't like acting anymore, will probably keep writing dumb books

Sean Penn hasn’t done a ton of acting over the last few years, aside from an appearance in The Angry Birds Movie and that dictionary thing he made with Mel Gibson that has been mired in a lawsuit for a while, and it sounds like we won’t be seeing him in too many movies in the future, either. In an upcoming appearance on CBS Sunday Morning (via Entertainment Weekly), Penn reveals that he no longer enjoys acting like he used to. “It can be great when you’re working with good actors or good directors or good writing,” he says, but he doesn’t know if those experiences have “a lasting value.” He adds that he’s “not in love with that anymore” and hasn’t been “for some time.”

The interview will air this Sunday, so we’ll have to wait until then to hear more of Penn’s thoughts on this, but hopefully his decision to step back from acting means we can look forward to more dumb books from him. We recently reported on Penn’s upcoming satirical novel Bob Honey Who Just Do Stuff—which slams both Donald Trump and the #MeToo movement with equal amounts of snottiness—and in the interview Penn says the book is the sort of thing where some “will really enjoy it” and “others will loathe it.”
