Season 2 of The Girlfriend Experience will feature two parallel storylines

In a press release today, Starz confirmed that The Girlfriend Experience will be transforming into an anthology series for its upcoming second season. In addition to that little twist, Starz has also announced that the second season will focus on two parallel storylines that—in the words of executive producer Steven Soderbergh—will be “even more provocative and confrontational” than last season’s lone storyline.

One of them will be set in Washington D.C. “against the backdrop of the corrupting influence of dark money in the upcoming 2018 U.S. midterm elections,” with Anna Friel playing the director of a Republican Super PAC and Louisa Krause as a “confident and intelligent GFE provider at the top of her game.” The other storyline will be set in New Mexico, with Carmen Ejogo playing a woman who cuts ties from her old life doing Girlfriend Experience stuff after finding “disturbing information” about an old client.

A premiere date for the new season has yet to be announced.
