Earlier this week, the 22nd season of beloved PBS series Arthur premiered with a bit of a surprise: Mr. Ratburn, Arthur and the gang’s longtime bachelor teacher, got married to a man. The episode handled this development with expected charm—it wasn’t an episode about gay marriage, it was simply an episode with a wedding in it, and when it came time for that wedding the two people getting married were of the same sex. Naturally, it was only a matter of time until conservative pundits lost their minds about it, and Trump administration washout and purported member of Nazi sympathizer group Vitezi Rend Sebastian Gorka took it upon himself to do just that.

Here’s the full, delightfully overwrought quote:

“That’s been the left from Robespierre to Trotsky to Marcuse to Alinsky to Clinton to Obama to today. Civil society doesn’t exist, friendship doesn’t exist, family doesn’t exist—only permanent revolution. Have you seen what I’ve posted on my Twitter feed with regards to family? Arthur is a children’s cartoon. I think it’s actually made with your money, PBS. My children used to watch Arthur 15 years ago, about a rodent-like creature that lived and had fun in his cartoon world. The new season of Arthur will have one of Arthur’s teachers at school, a male teacher married to a fellow male rodent. Did you have any questions about there being a culture war, ladies and gentlemen? Did you have any doubt in your mind? This is a war for our culture, and that’s why we exist here on America First on the Salem Radio Network.”

Yes, Arthur showing a male rat marrying a male aardvark is surely the precise thing Trotsky was thinking of when he and his fellow Menshevik-Internationalists called for permanent revolution. There’s a lot to love here, from the hysterical manner in which Gorka somehow lumps the Clintons in with Maximilien Robespierre to how perfect his shitty Bond villain impression is for describing the characters on a PBS children’s show. (For the record, Arthur is an aardvark, who are most closely related to elephants, not rodents.)

And Gorka wasn’t the only conservative blowhard with a diaper to fill: Doofus brigade One Million Moms has created a petition demanding PBS pull the episode. So far it has fewer signatures than the petition demanding HBO make Game of Thrones less bad.
