See Jack Black as a reclusive R.L. Stine in the new Goosebumps trailer
Like the first trailer, this new look at Goosebumps lays out the film’s meta-premise: R.L. Stine (Jack Black) is a famous author, but the world doesn’t know that all the monsters he’s written about are actually real and kept under his magical lock and key. When a new kid named Zach (Dylan Minnette) moves in next door and accidentally sets them free, he joins forces with Stine, his daughter Hannah (Odeya Rush), and a Goosebumps mega-fan (Trophy Wife’s Ryan Lee) to re-catch the monsters and save their town.
But where the first trailer seemed to be appealing more to teens, this one sells the movie as a family-friendly adventure with a Jumanji-esque vibe. In addition to monsters like the Invisible Boy, the Abominable Snowman, and some vicious garden gnomes, the trailer also features plenty of scenes of Black playing against type as a curmudgeonly recluse whose restrained physical comedy the film clearly hopes will appeal to both kids and their Goosebumps-loving parents.
The film hits theaters on October 16, just in time for Halloween.
