See Matthew McConaughey as a giant beetle in the Kubo And The Two Strings trailer

Stop-motion animation studio Laika specializes in movies where young people accidentally encounter supernatural worlds that are normally just beyond our reach, which is a pretty narrow niche if you think about it. And it looks like the studio’s next film, Kubo And The Two Strings, will carry on that tradition. That’s not a knock against Kubo, though, as this trailer suggests that it could be Laika’s most narratively and visually thrilling project yet. The film stars Art Parkinson (Rickon on Game Of Thrones) as the eponymous Kubo, a kid who accidentally summons a vengeful spirit and must use his magical shamisen (the thing with two strings) to save the day. Along his journey, he gets help from a monkey played by Charlize Theron and a huge beetle guy played by Matthew McConaughey. Also, the trailer is set to a cover of “While My Guitar Gently Weeps,” which is pretty rad.

Kubo And The Two Strings opens in theaters this August.
