See the Ash Vs. Evil Dead season 2 trailer deemed too gory for Comic-Con
The kind of people who will wait in line for hours dressed up as Leatherface or Sexy Chewbacca so they can catch a glimpse of their favorite stars from the back of an auditorium generally tend to not be all that conservative about sex and violence in art. That’s a relatively safe observation to make, right?
With that in mind, it seems a bit odd that the 2016 San Diego Comic-Con tsk-tsked the brand new trailer for the upcoming second season of Starz’ horror-action-comedy Ash Vs. Evil Dead on account of all the viscera on display. However, while two-and-a-half minute montage of blood spatter and dorky jokes is not allowed to be officially shown during the annual corporate marketing festival—which begins tomorrow—it’s just been made available online, so conventioneers can watch it on a loop while waiting in line to see the cast of NCIS: New Orleans.
And yeah, there’s a lot of gore crammed into those 155 seconds of video. Like, a shocking amount. Especially that part where the guy gets his face ripped off by the car tire. Safe money’s on that being the shot that put the Comic-Con people over the edge. But it’s all in good fun, at least as far as any cinematic representation of unimaginable human suffering can be in good fun. You do have to admit, as far as videos that entail people being decapitated by chainsaws go, this is kind of a blast.
The TV adaptation of of Sam Raimi’s cult film series has been getting great reviews so far. It’s even won a couple of awards. (Well, Fangoria Chainsaw Awards.) The sophomore season is expected to return to Starz this October.
