See Uhura and Spock face off on Lip Sync Battle
Never let it be said that Zachary Quinto won’t go all out to win a fake-singing contest against his fake space movie girlfriend. This week’s Lip Sync Battle saw the Star Trek and Heroes star face off against co-star Zoe Saldana, deploying a number of flashy flourishes to give himself an edge over the always stalwart Lt. Uhura.
First, Quinto went the tried-and-true celebrity route, recruiting music video star Cindy Crawford (and a healthy handful of nudity-blurring pixels) for his recreation of George Michael’s “Freedom! ’90” video. Then he veered into outright spectacle, throwing himself into a Missy Elliott costume and dangling from a chandelier at the climax of a spirited faux-rendition of “Get Ur Freak On.”
But all that Vulcan vamping was for naught, as the show’s audience ultimately determined that Quinto was merely a scrub. And in that moment, a scrub was the one thing Saldana didn’t want no of, a sentiment she went on to musically (and conclusively) prove. It’s not every day that TLC can be upstaged on one of their own iconic songs, but Saldana’s take on “No Scrubs” managed to do just that, with the actress dominating the stage even after she was joined by Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and Rozanda “Chilli” Thomas. In the end, the audience had to name Saldana the winner. No other choice would have seemed logical.
