Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg developing superhero and Illuminati comedies

Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg have proven to be a successful—dare we say, dynamic?—duo in filmmaking and TV production. They’ve teamed up on hilarious comedies and expectations-exceeding comic-book adaptations like This Is The End and Preacher, and already have several more projects in the works. So it shouldn’t surprise anyone to learn that they’re moving past their old “every stonerman” stuff to focus on the kind of exclusive groups they’re now a part of as Hollywood movers and shakers.

According to Deadline, Rogen and Goldberg are now developing comedies about superheroes and the Illuminati, because when you’re launching an Oscar campaign for a movie stuffed with your dick jokes, superpowers and conspiracy theories become your oeuvre. Fox has dibs on the sidekick project, about an “ambitious MIT graduate” who’s forced to play Alfred Pennyworth to a Steve Jobs-like genius who also happens to be a vigilante.

Meanwhile, ABC has picked up a single-camera comedy from the pair that centers on the Illuminati. The show, which will be executive produced by Brad Copeland (the U.S. Inbetweeners), follows a young couple that “struggles to balance marriage and suburban life with the fact that one of them is in the Illuminati.” Rogen and Goldberg have partnered with Sony Pictures for the two shows, which have both secured script commitments and penalties.
