Sharp Objects meets a blunt end

Here’s what’s happening in the world of television for Sunday, August 26. All times are Eastern.

Top pick

Sharp Objects (HBO, 9 p.m.), series finale: There’s no rule saying an adaptation of a book can’t leave its source material behind—The Leftovers, you magnificent creature, we did not deserve you—but all the same, we are somewhat reassured that the end Sharp Objects meets tonight will be its only end. The performances, direction, editing, writing, and sound (god, the sound) have all been masterful, but one can only spend so much time in Wind Gap’s dank, sweaty darkness. Camille will get out (or, you know, won’t get out) tonight, and that’s all she wrote.

Cheers to Gillian Flynn, Jean-Marc Vallée, Marti Noxon, Amy Adams, Patricia Clarkson, and company. Thanks for making us feel so weird about roller-skating.

Regular coverage

Preacher (AMC, 10 p.m.): third-season finale
Who Is America? (Showtime, 10 p.m.)
Insecure (HBO, 10:30 p.m.)
Venture Bros. (Adult Swim, midnight)

Wild card

The $100,000 Pyramid (ABC, 9 p.m.): Sure, you can watch a game show any old time. But this particular episode of this particular game show features Julie Bowen. And Leslie Jones. And Justina Machado. And Rita Moreno. Rita Moreno could do a series of ads for paper clips and it would still probably wind up in these pages.
