She’s All That is getting a remake
Because teen comedy from 1999 about a shallow high school jock who attempts to turn an artsy girl into prom queen is the type of story that apparently still resonates with viewers in 2015, a remake of She’s All That is in the works. The original film starred Freddie Prinze Jr. and the late Paul Walker as popular friends at a Southern California school who make a bet on whether Prinze’s character can mold a shy, unpopular girl (Rachel Leigh Cook) into high-school royalty in just six weeks. The Prinze himself seems less than thrilled with the news, and voiced that opinion by commenting on a random Twitter user’s disgust with Hollywood for churning out yet another remake:
The Weinstein Company and Miramax are developing the film, with Spike Lee’s wife, Tonya Lewis Lee, producing under her Tonik Productions banner. Kenny Leon is set to direct. (The two previously worked together on Hallmark Channel’s The Watsons Go to Birmingham.) No word yet on who might fill in for Usher’s career-defining “campus DJ” role, although we’re hoping it’s just Usher again.
