Sherlock casts Lars Mikkelsen from Danish version of The Killing as new villain

Lars Mikkelsen—the brother of Hannibal's Mads Mikkelsen, who's also known for playing mayoral candidate Troels Hartmann in the original Danish version of The Killing—will have a bit of an argy-bargy with velocipede-riding toff Benedict Cumberbatch on the upcoming third season of Sherlock.

Mikkelsen will play Charles Augustus Magnussen, who as far as we know is a powerful mutant who can control metal using only his mind. An alternate theory is that Magnussen is a reworking of the title character from Arthur Conan Doyle's original Holmes story "The Adventure of Charles Augustus Milverton," a blackmailer who targets the nobility.

No premiere date has been set yet for Sherlock's third season, on either side of the pond.
