Shia LaBeouf was arrested during his live stream last night

Earlier tonight, Shia LaBeouf was arrested by the New York Police Department, after an altercation broke out at the site of his “He Will Not Divide Us” live stream project. According to TMZ, someone approached the area where LaBeouf’s camera is mounted and said something that angered the actor and activist, who reportedly pulled on the man’s scarf, scratching his face. A few minutes later, the NYPD stepped in, and LaBeouf was arrested, charged with misdemeanor assault, and issued a desk appearance ticket for a later court date.

LaBeouf’s project—which went live on Inauguration Day, and in which he invites people to step in front of the outdoor mounted webcam and say “He will not divide us”—has quickly attracted attention from the alt-right and other youthful Nazi types, looking to disrupt what’s widely viewed as an anti-Trump protest. (LaBeouf has said that the project will continue for the next four years, or until the presidency is over.) On the video of the arrest, you can hear someone say “Shia took a hit for us. There were all these Nazis here, he came out and tried to protect us.” The project will presumably continue for the foreseeable future.
