Showtime brazenly renews Shameless for an eighth season

A complete and utter lack of shame is apparently working out for Showtime, as Deadline reports that the cable network has renewed its Chicago-set dramedy Shameless for an eighth season. This shouldn’t come as a surprise to fans of the show, though: Emmy Rossum confirmed that she had struck a deal to return for another season last week, part of her ongoing quest to make more money than her co-star William H. Macy. (He fully supports that quest, for the record.) There’s no official word yet on when the next season will air, although Rossum spilled the beans on this one, too, saying the show would go into production in May in a tweet. It’s almost like she’s the star of the show of something.
