Showtime orders Jamie Foxx comedy about being White Famous

Returning to TV comedy for the first time since The Jamie Foxx Show went off the air in 2001, actor and producer Jamie Foxx has successfully sold a new half-hour series to Showtime. Developed with Californication creator Tom Kapinos, the series will track a young black comedian traveling down a career path similar to Foxx’s own, from success and name recognition in black households, into the mainstream success of being White Famous.

Showtime hasn’t announced who’ll be starring in the show, although Deadline is reporting that Foxx will have a recurring on-camera role. (He’s also currently in pre-production on one of the several Robin Hood movies currently in the works, and is involved in Edgar Wright’s Baby Driver.) White Famous will also mark a return to the premium network for Kapinos, who spent seven years finding artful ways to film David Duchovny indifferently fucking his way through half of Los Angeles on Californication. Kapinos is also an executive producer on Lucifer, which was recently renewed for a second season by Fox.
