Shrill renewed for an 8-episode second season on Hulu
Hulu’s Aidy Bryant-starring Shrill has been renewed for a second season, Variety reports. The story of a plus-size woman’s misadventures on her path to body positivity and self-acceptance, it was loosely adapted from Lindy West’s Shrill: Notes From A Loud Woman.
Slated for a 2020 release, season two will address the abbreviated feel of the first season by expanding from six to eight episodes. That’s good news since, though it brims with potential, Shrill was still very much finding its voice throughout its first outing. Still, we praised it in our review for its “sharp observations about how patriarchal beauty standards can make life difficult for Annie, who describes herself as ‘fat’ with increasing confidence as the series unfolds, while never reducing her to a struggle.”
Lolly Adefope, Luka Jones, John Cameron Mitchell, Julia Sweeney, and Daniel Stern star alongside Bryant on the series. Read our full review of the first season here.
