Simon Pegg pranked the rest of the Star Trek Into Darkness cast, and the video is pretty great
Not content to stand by as merely a supporting player in Star Trek Into Darkness, Simon Pegg supplemented his role as Scotty by playing pranks on the rest of the cast toward the end of shooting. He and the makeup team came up with “Neutron Cream,” some special putty that actors had to wear while shooting in the “laser room,” and the video explaining the prank is one of the special features on the blu-ray—though good luck figuring out which one to buy. First Pegg got Anton Yelchin, then Zachary Quinto and Zoe Saldana, but he ramped up the staging for other cast members, with Chris Pine participating and director J.J. Abrams going along while keeping his mouth shut since it was the last day of shooting. Getting John Cho, and Karl Urban to read lines off cue cards revealing the prank is pretty great, but the best reaction goes to Benedict Cumberbatch. Pegg is giddy when it goes down (“Benedict is so creamed up right now!”) as Cumberbatch reads from a liability form that he’s been tricked and does an epic double take. It’s nice to know that at least one of the dour summer blockbusters this year had a silver lining of harmless fun behind the scenes.
