One of the weirdly reliable things about the the death of a celebrity is that their creative endeavors always get a huge uptick in popularity as people seek to rediscover the things that made them famous in the first place. David Bowie got his first-ever No. 1 album on the Billboard charts shortly after his death last year, and now Simon & Schuster is struggling to keep up with the demand for Carrie Fisher’s books after her death last week. According to Entertainment Weekly, the publisher is rushing to reprint Fisher’s books as soon as possible, because even though none of them have gone out of print, their supply has been “wiped out.”
Fisher’s books include the memoirs Wishful Drinking and Shockaholic, four novels, including Postcards From The Edge and The Best Awful, and her headline-grabbing latest work The Princess Diarist. According to Simon & Schuster, it has sold about 500,000 copies of the books to date, and it’s ordering a total of 50,000 more copies across all of those titles for later this week.
