Sims makes abstract pop art in the video for “OneHundred”

It’s been five years since Sims released Bad Time Zoo, his second solo album. Part of that gap can be contributed to his Minneapolis crew Doomtree releasing a pair of albums in that time. But now Sims is back with More Than Ever, his third solo record, on which he’s continued to push his sound in bombastic new directions. The A.V. Club is premiering the video for “OneHundred” below, which sees Sims fitting into a handful of pop art instillations while rapping over a beat provided by Lazerbeak, one of Doomtree’s venerable producers. Of the song video, Sims notes:

This is my first time having the good fortune to work with Otis N. Stanley— and WOW. Wow, wow, wow, meow. I first met these two well-groomed visionaries at Isaac Gale’s studio. I had been a fan for the past few years, they have been quietly knocking videos off the counter for a minute. Their ability to leap from the highest ledge, creatively, and somehow always land on their feet is inhuman; I had to work with them. But these are cats of few words, independent, aloof, they come to you when they’re ready. I’m glad they were. We set out with no real plan here, and at first I was a little nervous, but as soon as I saw them get purring, well.. They can do more with a ball of yarn and laser pointer than most people can do with a million dollars. Which is what made this million dollars so worth spending. This is a video for generations of human beings to enjoy. It’s very humbling to be a part of something you know will not only define your generation, but perhaps culture in general. Without further ado, please enjoy “OneHundred,” a film by Otis N. Stanley.

Pre-orders for More Than Ever are available now.
