Sinead O’Connor found 24 hours after getting lost in the suburbs of Chicago

Among the many strange things Sinead O’Connor has done recently, perhaps the most unexpected is getting lost in the suburbs of Chicago. We’re not even sure what O’Connor is doing in Wilmette, a well-off but otherwise unremarkable suburb known for its Bahá’í temple, which is actually quite pretty. According to The Chicago Tribune, though, she’s been staying there since performing in a David Bowie tribute concert in Chicago in late February, engaging in Facebook flame wars with Arsenio Hall from the anonymity of what the Tribune calls “a leafy east Wilmette block.”

And it’s from there that she wandered off yesterday morning, reportedly leaving for a bike ride at 6 a.m. local time. When she hadn’t returned several hours later, “a caller” contacted police, who finally located the “Nothing Compares 2 U” singer around 1:45 this afternoon. The police’s press release on the whole thing is very vague, stating simply that O’Connor “has been located. She is safe and is no longer listed as a missing/endangered person” and giving zero details on where the singer went or what she was doing during those lost 24 hours. She was detained in an Irish hospital for a mental health evaluation as recently as December, though, so one can only assume it wasn’t a fun experience for her.
