Skip whimsically through the history of Manic Pixie Dream Girls on film
Since originating in these pages with the very first My Year Of Flops entry on Elizabethtown, the concept of the Manic Pixie Dream Girl has popped up all over the pop-culture map. It’s inspired NPR stories, clever video spoofs, the derision of Elizabethtown star Kirsten Dunst and Ruby Sparks writer/star Zoe Kazan and even an upcoming young adult novel of the same name.
Now the good folks over at Flavorpill have graciously assembled a montage of quintessential Manic Pixie Dream Girl moments from 75 years of film. So get yourself a Capri-Sun with a crazy straw, slap on some Groucho Marx glasses, take out your favorite Hello Kitty doll, and drink in the bittersweet whimsy of decades upon decades of Manic Pixie Dream Girls and the sad sacks who love them.
