SNL’s Weekend Update might get a primetime spin-off
Capitalizing on the president’s hatred of Saturday Night Live, NBC is reportedly mulling a plan to give Weekend Update a primetime spot, Politico reports. The parody news show has had brief weekday runs in the past, airing as Weekend Update Thursday when the 2008 and 2012 general election races were underway, as well as a stint in the fall of 2009. According to Politico, this new incarnation may once again get a Thursday spot some time “later this year.” Last year, current hosts Michael Che and Colin Jost did specials from the Republican and Democratic National Conventions on MSNBC.
This news comes after a rough show Saturday for Che and Jost. As The A.V. Club wrote in its review: “Let’s go ahead and call this one a hot mess right off the bat.”
