Snoop Dogg and Method Man will smoke up the second Game Of Thrones mixtape
Last March, with the sixth season of Game Of Thrones looming large, HBO released its first Thrones-theme mixtape. The hip-hop infused Catch The Throne left a little to be desired with iffy tracks from Common, Magazeen, and Daddy Yankee, but it satisfied fans’ need for something Thrones related. Plus, it taught and/or reminded the world that everyone—not just white nerds—is obsessed with Thrones.
Now HBO has announced the second Thrones mixtape, Catch The Throne: The Mixtape Vol. 2. Crossing genres with tracks from both Method Man and Anthrax, the second volume will “[leverage] themes and highlights from season four,” according to a press release. Vol. 2 also attempts to weave together the themes of ice and fire, something the same release says ties into the mix’s “exciting line-up of heavy metal and hip-hop artists.” Anthrax’s Scott Ian says in the same release that his band’s contribution is “a song about the Lannister family,” something he thinks “allows us to connect more with our fans and Game Of Thrones fans in a way we never would have imagined.”
A full lineup of contributors has yet to be announced, but other confirmed acts include Killswitch Engage, Snoop Dogg, and Yandel. There’s no firm release date yet for the free mix, but HBO promises it’ll come out some time in March.
