Soft-rock hero Richard Marx helps stop violent attack aboard Korean Air flight

Children of the ‘80s may remember adult contemporary singer Richard Marx as the voice behind “Right Here Waiting,” the romantic piano ballad that topped the Billboard charts for three weeks in the summer of 1989. (It was knocked from the top spot by Paula Abdul’s “Cold Hearted Snake.”) But the passengers and crew on Korea Air 480 will remember him for a very different reason: As the guy who helped bring down a man who lost control and started violently attacking his fellow passengers on a flight from Vietnam to South Korea earlier today.

Marx tweeted about the ordeal, saying “You will be hearing about our flight#480 on @KoreanAir_KE. Passenger next to us attacked passengers and crew. Crew completely ill trained,” before uploading pictures apparently taken from a cell-phone video of the event. In the photos, Marx can be seen in a group of people that put themselves between the man and a crew member as passengers cower in their seats nearby, then holding the rope that was eventually used to tie the man once he was subdued.
