Solange and Questlove to take part in Yale’s Prince/David Bowie conference

Yale University has announced a conference exploring the careers of Prince and David Bowie. Starting January 25 and running through January 28, “Blackstar Rising & The Purple Reign: Celebrating the Legacies of David Bowie and Prince” will focus on how the pair “changed the face of popular music culture in the second half of the twentieth century.” While that sounds pretty dry, Yale has also invited Questlove, Solange, and TV On The Radio to participate.

The conference opens on January 25 with Questlove and Kimbra hosting a “concert and critical deejay session,” which will surely be equal parts fun and quiet, thoughtful analysis. Other events include a screening of Ziggy Stardust & The Spiders From Mars followed by a Q&A with director D.A. Pennebaker, and a roundtable conversation about the nature of activism in music featuring Solange. All these events are free and open to the public, including the TV On The Radio concert that closes the whole thing out.
