Solange to play an inauguration ball that doesn’t involve Donald Trump

Donald Trump’s team has reportedly had some trouble booking big-name musical acts for the events surrounding his inauguration. But there is a star showing up in D.C. that week to play—only she’s going to be offering some counter-programming. Solange Knowles is performing on January 19 at an event The Washington Post describes as a “sort of alternative celebration.” Held at the National Museum of African American History and Culture, the Peace Ball is organized by Busboys and Poets and is billed as ”a gathering to celebrate the accomplishments and successes of the past four years and the vow to continue to be the change we want to see in the world.” So, although it’s nonpartisan, it certainly doesn’t seem like Trump’s scene. Esperanza Spalding is also on the bill at the ball, while attendees are set to include the likes of Ashley Judd, a Hillary Clinton supporter, and Danny Glover, who campaigned for Bernie Sanders. Angela Davis, Alice Walker, Cheryl Strayed, Van Jones, and Melissa Harris-Perry are among the other hosts and guests.

Solange’s recent album A Seat At The Table landed on The A.V. Club’s best music of 2016 list. Her famous sister Beyoncé performed at a concert for Hillary Clinton’s campaign shortly before the election in November along with husband Jay Z.
