Someone is maybe trying to sabotage Lana Del Rey's Oscar chances

Someone out there either doesn’t want Lana Del Rey to get nominated for an Oscar, or they're absolutely fantastic at doing covert marketing for the singer. An anonymous letter claiming to announce the disqualification of Del Rey’s Great Gatsby contribution, “Young And Beautiful,” was recently mailed out to members of the Academy music selection committee. Problem is, the song wasn’t actually disqualified. The letter was just a fake, complete with a mocked-up Variety article.

While it's yet to be determined who sent it, Warner Bros. and Interscope are already working overtime to thoroughly dispel the notion that she's out of the running and stumping for her nomination. The companies have recut a music featurette about Luhrmann and Del Rey’s collaboration that they’ll send to voters, reminding everyone involved—including us humble non-voters and casual Del Rey fans—that yes, “Young And Beautiful” is one of the 75 songs eligible to receive an Oscar nomination, just in case you wanted to tell your Academy member friends.
