Someone recut the new Star Wars teaser with footage from the original trilogy
It’s a given that despite having only 39 seconds of actual footage, the first official teaser for Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be iterated in every conceivable way from now until the next one emerges from the depths of director J.J. Abrams’ Mystery Box. Hell, in less than two weeks we’ve already seen the George Lucas “special edition” cut, the Lego version, and the Spaceballs take. Still, given Abrams’ stated desire to return the Star Wars franchise to its practical roots, it’s supremely fitting that someone (YouTube user Dr. Jimmy Russell) created a shot-by-shot remake of The Force Awakens teaser using only footage from the original trilogy.
The results are pretty evocative–enough to inspire a bit of that fresh Star Wars thrill much the same way the new teaser does–though it’s worth wondering whether, say, recutting the prequel trilogy in the same manner would have a similar effect. And now that that suggestion’s been printed, it’s only a matter of time someone does just that. Truly, we live in an age of lazy wonders.
Here’s the original The Force Awakens teaser for comparison.
