Sonic Terrorism: Manilow Division
From Rolling Stone.com:
Authorities Use Manilow to Discourage Loitering
The Sydney, Australia, district of Rockdale is planning to use the music of BARRY MANILOW to discourage youth from loitering in a local parking lot, according to Councilor Bill Saravinovski. The move follows an earlier successful experiment that found playing BING CROSBY records in an Australian shopping center was an effective way to get teenagers to move along. Authorities plan to play the Manilow songs, along with classical music, over a loudspeaker in the lot.
For some reason I can't help but thinking about the end of A Clockwork Orange, although at one point Malcolm McDowell's character liked classical music. Not that Manilow's a classic, although the website stuckinthe70s.com does offer some evidence that at some point teens liked Manilow, too.
Could this be true?
