Sony announces PS3 price drop, introduces the PS3 Slim

After nearly a year of speculation and pressure from software makers, Sony has finally dropped the price of the PlayStation 3 console—and announced the long-rumored PS3 Slim. Effective immediately, the regular 80gb PS3 will retail for $299, while supplies last. In a few weeks, the Slim will hit the shelves, also priced at $299. (It should be noted that if you wait for the slim, you're also looking at 120gb drive instead of 80.) According to Variety, the Slim is "33 percent smaller and 36 percent lighter than existing models." Since the PS3 also features one of the better Blu-ray players at its price point, it seems like a no-brainer. (Yes, I'm going to order one.)
