Sony to drag Frankenstein from the grave one more time

Sony Pictures has confirmed plans to create a “contemporary version” of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, a myth that has seen many a contemporized version over the years, but only a few of which have been straight adaptations of the source novel (the last being Kenneth Branagh’s Robert De Niro-starring version in 1994). The script will be written by Craig Fernandez, who’s certainly used to reanimated, stitched-together things: His credits so far include From Prada To Nada, described as “a Latin spin on Sense And Sensibility,” two DreamWorks Animation projects, Everything Must Go (taken from Terry Pratchett’s The Bromeliad) and a film version of Octavia E, Butler’s Clay’s Ark, and he’s just sold a script described as “a futuristic adaptation of Rudyard Kipling's Captains Courageous.” Unfortunately for Sony, compared to vampires and werewolves, it’s awfully hard to make Frankenstein sexy—although some have found a way.
