Southland resurrected by TNT

Variety has the news that Southland, the canceled-before-a-single-episode-of-its-second-season-aired-on-NBC cop drama, has found a new home: TNT. The details:

Turner cabler has bought the L.A. cop drama from Warner Bros. Television after NBC decided to cancel the show last month. Agreement had been close for days but pact is now official and TNT purchased both the seven episodes leftover from last season that never ran as well as the six episodes that were shot over the past few months.

That's good news for fans of the show, which had a promising, if decidedly short of spectacular, run last spring, its verite camerawork and interesting characters often seeming at war with the overly familiar stories. Here's hoping it finds its legs on a cable channel that now seems more interested in real programming than the network that cast it off.
